First time bouldering?

For your first time bouldering, you don't need any experience. You don't need a course, a climbing partner, or special equipment. Upon arrival, we will briefly explain how bouldering works, what to look out for, and how to start safely.

Step-by-step bouldering

Let's start

Bouldering is accessible. You don't need to be able to belay and you don't need any certification. Report to the desk, hire climbing shoes if necessary and we will give you a brief explanation of the basic rules, safety and how to start a route.

Independent bouldering is possible from 12 years of age. Younger climbers are also welcome, but our youth policy applies to them.

Youth policy

To ensure safety and peace in the hall, we apply the following youth policy:

Children aged 8 to 11 years old always boulder under the supervision of a parent or guardian (18+), with a maximum of two children per parent or guardian.

Children aged 6 and 7 are only permitted to boulder under the supervision of a parent or guardian. met a valid subscription with Block013 (multi-entry cards are excluded). Bouldering for these kids is possible during our daluren:

  • on weekdays from 09:30 to 17:30
  • at the weekend from 16:00 until closing time

Please note: children under 8 years of age cannot yet participate in our children's training sessions.

We ask parents and guardians to actively supervise and work together to ensure a safe and pleasant climbing environment for everyone.

Right, but... what actually is bouldering?

Bouldering is climbing without a rope or harness, on short routes of about 3 to 4.5 metres high. Beneath the walls are thick crash mats, which always provide you with a soft landing.

Every boulder is a small puzzle. You use strength, balance, technique and above all your head to climb via the holds to the top hold. You don't need to be strong or experienced to start: there are routes for beginners and for advanced climbers.

In short, bouldering is climbing in its most pure form: athletic, sociable and pretty addictive.

What can you expect?

At Block013 you will find an atmospheric bouldering gym and a team with a passion for the sport. Are you coming for the first time? Then we will help you on your way with a brief explanation, an example boulder and practical tips. After that you can try routes yourself at your own pace.

Start with the easier boulders, watch how others move and take enough rest in between. You don't have to reach the top right away. Bouldering is all about trying, falling, trying again, learning and getting better step by step.

After climbing you can hang out in the lounge or at the bar. At Block013 bouldering is not just about the climbing, but also about the relaxed atmosphere, music, team and community.

Do I need experience?

No. You can start without any prior experience. During your first visit, you'll receive an explanation of the sport and the most important safety rules. After that, you can get started on your own.

Would you like to get better at climbing after your first session? Then you can join Block Beginners. This training consists of 3 sessions, once a week, in a group of at least 6 and a maximum of 8 participants. No entry-level experience is required.

There are also separate training options for personal training, youth training, and advanced climbers.

Is it safe?

Bouldering is an accessible form of indoor climbing. You climb without ropes, but on thick crash mats. The walls are about 3 to 4.5 metres high.

As with any sport, there are risks involved. Therefore, on your first visit, you will be given an explanation on how to fall safely, how to pay attention, and how to be considerate of other climbers. The most important rule is: never walk underneath someone who is climbing, and keep the mat clear.

Would you prefer a better introduction?

On your first visit, you always get a brief explanation at the desk. Would you like more guidance, to learn technique or to build confidence faster?

For beginners, Block Beginners is the most logical starting point. In three sessions, you will learn the basics of bouldering, technique, movement, and safe climbing.
Would you prefer personal attention? Then you can choose personal training, solo or duo.

Certainly not. You can always choose how high you want to climb – and how you climb down. For example, there are also extra easy holds placed here and there – large descending holds. Furthermore, our specially designed beginner routes are built so that you don't have to climb all the way to the top. This allows you to learn bouldering safely and easily and gain a lot of confidence.

8 is the minimum age and there is no maximum. Climbers up to the age of 12 may only climb under the direct supervision of their parents (1 adult per 2 children).
